My Resume and Portfolio
Career summary
With over three decades of experience leading IT operations, cybersecurity initiatives, and enterprise-wide technology transformations, I bring a track record of delivering measurable improvements in performance, security, and operational efficiency. My leadership roles at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) have uniquely prepared me to support and advance an organization’s IT goals through strategic vision, technical excellence, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Ideology.
I have a strong people first leadership style. An organization's success is built on the well-being and development of its employees. I believe in the importance of trust, respect, and valuing individual strengths. Where possible, that means owning my team’s weaknesses as well as its accomplishments, constantly looking for ways to improve. I believe in empowerment of my teams by creating an inclusive environment where innovation thrives, collaboration is key, and every voice matters. That also includes providing resources, recognition, and a platform for team members to, themselves, lead and grow.
People First. Technology Second.
Biography.
I have been passionate about computers, technology, and science my entire life. I grew up in the 80s, so many of today’s technology was invented by my generation. And I’ve experienced most of it from its beginnings.
Most importantly: I am a recently separated federal employee. My entire government career has been with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). But I’m not quite ready for retirement! I want to use my talents and skills for a new organization that shares my ideology regarding people and technology.
My entire career, I have worked to overcome challenges. Some personal, some organizational. Some just needed creative problem solving.
I have worked as a leader of small teams, where the next higher leadership wasn’t sure we could achieve; we achieved!
I have managed entire contracts and groups of teams. I’ve lead major, multi-year contracts from requisition to completion, and not missed a single milestone with exceptional performance.
I’ve overseen major projects, consolidating four data centers into two, on time and within budget. And I’ve seen those data centers begin to migrate to a hybrid/cloud posture with great success as well.
I’ve learned along the way to identify gaps quickly and work even more quickly to close those gaps. Whether it was picking up new skills, or fixing technology, or communication to resolve misunderstandings.
It’s not all about work. I’ve enjoyed an excellent life-work balance my entire career. When I’ve been asked “who do you work for?” I have often said that I work for my family, and I get paid by NOAA. At home, I’m a sci-fi and fiction nerd. Ask me anything about Star Wars, Star Trek, Fire Fly, Lord of the Rings, or video games and I’ve probably got your answer! I’ve been to Walt Disney World too many trips to count! If you want trip advice, be careful what you wish for, but I’m happy to help!

My Resume
I started with NOAA as a Y2k Programmer. I picked up Systems Administration. Then I led a team of administrators. I managed whole branches of data experts and IT professionals. And most recently, I’ve focused on improving business processes to improve how NOAA conducts its work. Along the way, I introduced ITIL and ITSM to the organization. I introduced Jira and Agile and Scaled Agile Framework.
I can’t take credit for any of this alone! By working well with people and being a good listener, I share those successes with others that knew a little more than me about all of this but just needed someone to help their ideas grow.
